Texturing - Research and Image Collection
This week I collected a series of reference images which could be used for the texturing of my model (the shale bucket). The material of the bucket is a metal/steel with a powder coated type finish in a dark brown-black colour. As the client has specified that they are only particularly interested in us replicating the aerial ropeway when it was in operation - and not replicating it during the fall or in its current decayed state - I did not collect any rusted textures as these will not be necessary for the scope of the project.
I also sourced/created a normal bump map (using CrazyBump www.crazybump.com) and specular map (using Photoshop). The normal map will add the appearance of dimension and 3D texture to the material, the specular map affects the way light reflects off the material and glossiness. These map types will help to increase the materials realism when viewed in CryEngine3.
I sourced this tutorial from the Cry Engine documentation to use as a reference during the texturing process. It goes through the process of adding a "physics proxy" to the object - which should make the material physical in CryEngine 3 and thus allow for collisions, rather than having the player be able to walk through the object.
